Beautiful Boundaries

KDC Construction started by primarily serving Home Owner Associations in Irvine more than 11 years ago. Having dealt with very strict guidelines regarding city and HOA regulations, KDC Construction learned to work with strict guidelines. The KDC professionals take pride in three main objectives: be on time, be neat, and do great work - all for a competitive price. KDC believes this because, if we don't, somebody else will.

KDC Construction specializes in custom wood fences, gates, custom patio covers, and exterior termite-wood replacement. Termite-wood replacement is extremely important to maintaining your house structure. Treating termites can be helpful if the wood has not deteriorated, but after that, it is necessary to replace the wood.

Termites are a huge problem in Southern California. We have the largest drywood termite population in the United States and they are the most difficult to control.

Most people don't realize the extent of their termite infestation. People should periodically inspect their homes for termite droppings and what appear to be bubbles or pockets on the wood. Does the wood feel soft or spongy?

These can be signs of termite/dryrot damage that, unless dealt with, can severely damage your home and, left unchecked, can cost many thousands of dollars to repair. Your home is one of your single biggest investments. You need to take care of it.

With the termite problem in Southern California, many homeowners are looking into the use of non-wood material.

Kyle Davis, owner of KDC Construction, keeps up to date on the technology of several new products for fencing, such as concrete, vinyl, and composites.

"These new products, while exciting and different, do have draw backs," he said.

"Vinyl is very popular for fencing right now but have you seen a 15-year-old vinyl fence? The answer is no, because it has only been recently employed so everyone is waiting to see how this product weathers over time, and its durability.

"Concrete and composite fencing are two other new options," states Davis, "but, again, they are new and have several drawbacks. When your neighbor's tree falls over and cracks your fence, will that concrete fence company still exist to sell you the exact same replacement pieces?"

Wood fencing offers proven reliability and, when properly maintained and pre-treated, will last 10-to-15-plus years and is anywhere from a third to half the cost of other materials.

"Wood is also natural. Other fencing materials are composed of chemicals that may not be very environmentally friendly. Wood fencing uses lumber that is primarily harvested lumber planted specifically for mill use. Wood is also entirely biodegradable, unlike vinyl. When your fence is disposed of, it will naturally decompose," he said.
