Team Work
Heller Real Estate does business with a team approach.
by Sandra McClintock

There's an old adage that says "behind every great man is a great woman." In Chris Heller's case, it's not just his wife Shelli, he also has a great team!

Chris Heller has been a top real estate professional in San Diego County for 17 years. To discover the secret of his success, I went to visit him and his team at their office in Encinitas. But rather than talking to Heller directly, I decided to interview his team members. What better way to find out about a man than to have a candid conversation with his employees?

I must admit I thought I'd get standard answers to my questions, but instead I was surprised at the enthusiasm and dedication in their responses. If this is a reflection of Heller as a leader, it's no wonder that he is one of the most productive and proficient realtors in the nation.

Here are some of the questions I asked. Rather than paraphrasing the answers, I'll share them just as I received them. This will tell you more about the real Chris Heller than either he or I can.

Q. What do you like in particular about working with Chris Heller?
A. The knowledge that Chris has about real estate just blows me out of the water! He is amazing to listen to when talking with his clients from his professionalism, attention to detail to wonderful sense of humor.

Q. How would you rate this team's knowledge compared to the industry standard?
A. When the average agent is selling one house a month, here we sell 10-15. We can't help but to become more knowledgeable. We are a perfect "10." We stick our landings!

Q. Have you observed any unique qualities about Chris?
A. His communication skills and his abilities to cater to each client's individual needs. He really listens to what people have to say. He does not lower his standards or his work ethic just because of his amazing success. He is constantly striving to do better instead of resting on his laurels. And he truly has a concern for the well being of each and every client.

Q. Define your team's "customer service."
A. That's easy: There's no such thing as 9-5, only 24-7! Knowing the customers' needs before they do and getting things handled for them before being asked.

Q. Would you hire Chris to be your personal agent?
A. Absolutely, because he is so determined when it comes to helping his clients get what they want. Buying and selling a house is a huge deal for people, emotionally and financially. With Chris, you can rest assured knowing that he's the most competent and aggressive agent.

Q. What have you learned from working with Chris?
A: I have learned that it's not just about selling and that in order to be successful, my whole life needs to be successful. Nothing can be assumed and that everybody needs to stay flexible. To be focused, patient and not let minor negativity affect my attitude. To aks myself "what can I improve on today?" There is nothing that can't be worked out and negotiated if all parties have the same goal.

Q. What do you like about working at the HREG?

Heide Warren: I like the systems that are in place. They're great! From the initial contact with a client to after we close escrow, we have systems for everything.

Q. What do you like about working in a team atmosphere?

Beth Richards: It really is like being a part of a family. The support systems that we have for our clients and each other is amazing.

Q. Do you feel that working with this team benefits you more than working independently?

Reza Moslehi: Absolutley. I have worked on my own before and there is no way that an individual agent could provide the level of service that we do.

From the team answers, I can see why Chris Heller is No. 1 in real estate sales and service. In fact I'd say you get ten for the price of one when you retain the Heller Group for your real estate transactions!
